amtrak The biggest news in the Wi-Fi these days is that Amtrak is finally ready to launch free Wi-Fi for regional trains on October 1st, 2011. Isn’t a great news? Amtrak is finally all set to implement free Wi-Fi on some regional trains in the Northeast region. For those of you who don’t know, Amtrak is providing the same service to the Northwest regional trains.

After seeing that the final bet has been laid down by different plane and bus companies in the last few years, Amtrak is extending the Wi-Fi service. It indulged in the conversations between conductors and passengers before agreeing for this new service in northeast regional trains.

This is a good news for those who are residing in the UK, as all these hotspots have been opened in the UK. According to a report from International Business Times, this service has been backed up by BSkyB-controlled The Cloud.

O2 announces free wifi network push

502690_wifismall_big With Sky’s declaration of buying the Cloud Wifi network hotspot, O2, the UK mobile operator has also announced its plans of having Wifi of its own. The operator, which had earlier worked with the Cloud to make its broadband network congestion free from iPhone pressure, has huge plans to get into Wifi.

O2 plans to increase its wifi hotspot area and implement a totally free model. The operator also plans to replace its present 450 model of the Cloud hotspot and use network managed by it. O2 wants to double the number of its finest hotspots by 2013 from the ones that they are presently offering through BT Openzone and The Cloud.

Airlines to offer free WiFi this holiday season

google-free-inflight-wifi In a new move to attract fliers, some airlines are offering free WiFi connect for the coming holiday month. Fliers who would like to surf during their flight can now do so in selected airlines that are planning to offer its passengers the free WiFi connection as a holiday gift. The move by the carriers and the Internet providers is aimed at luring fliers to pay for WiFi in their later flights.

The carriers that are involved in this deal include AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin America. On the other hand, Google, with its search engine and the Chrome Internet browser is partnering for the free Internet access called as Gogo Inflight Internet service. The offer starts from January 2nd of the coming year. The service normally gets chargedUS$ 4.95 for WiFi access during short flights and over US$ 49.95 for multiple prepaid in-flight sessions.
