According to a recent survey, more than 40% of the U.S. traffic during last month between Apple Inc.’s iPhone and the world’s largest mobile ad network went over Wi-Fi connections. So, this is clear that iPhone users are depending heavily on Wi-Fi for Web access.
IPhone users rely heavily on the wireless Internet access and this trend is growing rapidly. In August 2008 itself, about 43% of iPhone users made requests for Wi-Fi networks. Apart from this, over 51% of all wireless requests were made to the AdMob’s advertisers, while Apple’s iPod Touch was responsible for 28% of all wireless requests.
The growing reliance of iPhone users on wireless makes the analysts ponder to see the device as Apple’s de facto “netbook, a term given to the small, lightweight and low-priced notebooks that are in the market due to recession. AdMob noticed that the total iPhone requests have jumped by 52% in November as compared to the previous month.
Apple, as a handset manufacturer received only 7.8% of all requests after Nokia, Motorola, Sony, Ericsson and Samsung. Nokia’s handsets received about 31.9% of the AdMob share, while Motorola received 12.7%.
