Airlines to offer free WiFi this holiday season

google-free-inflight-wifi In a new move to attract fliers, some airlines are offering free WiFi connect for the coming holiday month. Fliers who would like to surf during their flight can now do so in selected airlines that are planning to offer its passengers the free WiFi connection as a holiday gift. The move by the carriers and the Internet providers is aimed at luring fliers to pay for WiFi in their later flights.

The carriers that are involved in this deal include AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin America. On the other hand, Google, with its search engine and the Chrome Internet browser is partnering for the free Internet access called as Gogo Inflight Internet service. The offer starts from January 2nd of the coming year. The service normally gets chargedUS$ 4.95 for WiFi access during short flights and over US$ 49.95 for multiple prepaid in-flight sessions.

CSIRo In a breakthrough technology update, the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organization (CSIRO) has initiated a WiFi technology to analog TV antenna.

This new technology, called as Ngara, will allow numerous users to upload content at the same time. Moreover, the data can be transfered at a speed of 12 mbps over the old analog TV antenna.

The company undertook an ethical hacking experiment in six different cities in UK. The result of the experiment revealed that over 40, 000 home using Wi-Fi networks lack enough protection. Moreover, a majority of them didn’t even have a password. And these home systems can be hacked within a few seconds, thereby posing great threats.

This is quite a reason to worry because it makes it clear that a large number of homes with wireless network have unknowlingly rendered their boadband connections to probable misuse at the hands of hackers.
