KDDI used the Wireless Japan 2009 as the platform for launching their latest innovation which is a micro SD card with wireless LAN function. The Wireless Japan is an exhibition focused on wireless and mobiles. This exhibition was held from July 22 to 24 this year.
The microSD card launched by the KDDI is 11 x 16 x 0.7mm in measurement. The card when connected to a mobile phone accelerates the speed of your internet connection. These cards are developed by KDDI in association with Mitsumi Electric Co. Ltd., a unit of the Renseas Technology Corporation. Both the firms have LAN IC compliance. The two firms also boast of passive components and a transceiving antenna.
However, both Mitsumi Electric Co Ltd. and Renesas Technology Corp use different technologies. While being a wireless LAN IC, Mitsumi uses “AR6002” which is a product of the Atheros Communications Inc. and has employed RF transceiver circuit and integrated baseband processing circuit in the card, while, Renseas Technology has equipped the card with “KS3021” RF transceiver IC and baseband processing IC of “KS7010”.
KDDI confirmed that the area of antenna in both the types is almost one third of the actual microSD. The date of release has however not been declared as yet; which is sure to increase the expectations about this product in the market.
